Dante Johnson

Instruments Taught:

Percussion/Drums

Bio:

Dante has been playing percussion for ten years and has been teaching for the past three years. He instructs beginning through intermediate students on the drum set and drum corps instruments. He performs in various rock and jazz bands in the Central Valley. He also is a contributing member of the Merced art scene, undertaking various projects for events about town.

In his own words: “What is wonderful about people is their connection to musical rhythm. If a person can nod their head along to music or understand the ticking of a clock, they are a natural beatmaker. Is it our understanding of time that makes our musical sensibilities? The art of drumming can be as loud as thunder or as soft as the trickle of a stream. What is enjoyable about learning to drum is the newfound sense of hearing new sounds and replicating them in the discovery in a method of expression. To share a musical idea is the most satisfying reward between disciples of the practice.”
